There is a word in Japan called “chindogu” which means pointless gadget. But a new device from Japan is not quite a Chindogu- it’s a stink meter, to help people who are offensively smelly to keep their smell under check. The device tells you how bad your body odour is. The device is not available in India currently.

To make this work, you have to take the device-Tanita ES 100, turn it on, flip out the sensor and point it to a part of the body that you are concerned is causing too much bad odour. It will take around ten seconds to measure the particulate matter and will display how bad the smell is on a scale from 0 to 10. If you are above 5 on the reading, perhaps it’s time for you to take care of your odour.
If you think applying to such deodorant or cologne could save it, the pocket sized ES 100 will also tell you that you should tone down the use of deo or body sprays. The sensor can last for 2000 uses, that is roughly about a year. The company thinks men around the age of 40 and 50 will be the primary category they can aim at.
The ES-100 goes on sale in Japan Sunday and will be sold for about 13824yen($125). A similar Bluetooth device that came out last year had a much smaller price tag.
