GST has completed a year. While the Opposition has lashed out on its implementation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that it has brought simplicity in the Indian economy.
On the first anniversary of Goods and Services (GST), Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the nation. Praising the uniform tax system, PM Modi said it has helped bring a positive change in the economy and boosted growth and transparency in the country.
On Twitter, the Indian Prime Minister wrote, “I congratulate the people of India on the special occasion of GST completing 1 year. A vibrant example of cooperative federalism and a ‘Team India’ spirit, GST has brought a positive change in the Indian economy.”

Hailing GST as a tool that brought simplicity in the system, Modi said, “It is boosting formalization, enhancing productivity, furthering ‘Ease of Doing Business’, benefitting small and medium enterprises.”
In a recent address through his radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi had described GST as the fine example of corporate federalism called a “festival of honesty” that has helped eradicate inspector raj.
GST was a major initiative taken by Centre to ease the tax system of the country.
Touted as the biggest economic reform since Independence, GST was launched on the midnight on June 30 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then President Pranab Mukherjee. The taxation scheme aimed at bringing all taxes into a single window along the lines of the ‘One Nation – One Tax – One Market’ goal.
