Hubby comes to rescue Sushma Swaraj over ‘passport row’ trolls

An interfaith couple was abused by an officer when they had come to register for their passports. And what followed was protests and complaints that demanded justice to the couple.

And External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj too had faced backlash and trolls on the matter.

And once such tweet was that she should be thrashed by her husband Swaraj Kaushal. The abusive tweet had come from the Twitter profile Mukesh Gupta with “IIT Delhi” in the handle.

“when she comes home tonight why don’t U beat her up & teach her not to do Muslim appeasement tell her Muslims will never ever vote for BJP,” Mukesh Gupta posted, tagging both the foreign minister and her husband, a lawyer.

“who else can teach @SushmaSwaraj a lesson or two,” said the troll whose profile says he’s a B.Tech.

While this abusive post was deleted by Mukesh Gupta, Swaraj Kaushal had taken a screenshot of and had tweeted:

“Your words have given us unbearable pain. Just to share with you, my mother died of cancer in 1993. Sushma was an MP and a former Education Minister. She lived in the hospital for a year. She refused to engage a medical attendant and attended on my dying mother personally,” Kaushal tweeted.

“Such was her devotion to the family. As per my father’s wish, she lit my father’s pyre. We adore her. Please do not use such words for her. We are the first generation in law and politics. We pray for nothing more than her life. Pls convey my profound regards to your wife,” he added.

The EAM was earlier also trolled by many Twitter users for helping an inter-faith couple, who were allegedly harassed by the officials of Lucknow passport office over their religion.

The attack on Twitter comes five days after Sushma  Swaraj was abused on Twitter after passports were issued to an inter-faith couple from Uttar Pradesh. The woman had alleged an officer at the passport office had told the husband to change his religion.

The passport officer was later transferred, which led the trolls to attack the foreign minister – who was abroad at the time — for what they claimed was punishing a man who was only doing his duty.

After returning to India, Swaraj had retweeted some of the abusive posts directed at her.

The Lucknow police have said the inter-faith couple has not been staying at the address they mentioned in the forms for at least a year. Rules demand that an applicant has to give the most recent address — and any previous ones in a span of a year before applying.

Police sources have said it is possible that they might be asked to file more documents or even an application at the passport office in Noida.
