Shashi Tharoor has been charged as an accused in the Sunanda Pushkar death case. He was charged with abetting the suicide of his wife and subjecting her to cruelty.
Today, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has moved for an anticipatory bail just days he is set to appear before a Delhi court in the Sunanda Pushkar death case. Taking note of it, the Patiala House court said it will take up his plea at 10.00 am tomorrow.
Pushkar, Tharoor’s wife, was mysteriously found dead in a Delhi hotel in January’14.
More than four years later, Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against Tharoor, who has called the allegations “baseless.”
Tharoor’s counsel told the media: “SIT categorically stated in the charge sheet that probe is concluded and no custodial interrogation of any person is reqd. Law is very clear that if charge sheet is filed without arrest, bail is inevitable. Matter fixed for consideration at 10 am tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor has been summoned by the trial court and is to appear before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on the 7th of July.

Probe: The twists and turns in the case
Throughout the years, there have been several flip-flops in the investigation. Initially, officials suspected suicide.
Later reports marked the cause of death as “unnatural.”
An AIIMS doctor then claimed he was forced to issue a false report.
In January 2015, Delhi Police filed an FIR for the ‘murder’ of Pushkar.
In the charge sheet filed this month, Tharoor was mentioned as a ‘suspect,’ not ‘accused.’
Delhi Police filed a charge sheet in May naming Tharoor as an accused. Pushkar, according to the charge sheet, killed herself by overdosing on antidepressant pills.
Tharoor dismissed the charge sheet as “preposterous” and said he would contest it. He also slammed the police probe.
For now, Tharoor has been charged under IPC Sections 498A (husband or relatives subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide).
The maximum punishment under Section 498A is three years of imprisonment, and under Section 306, 10 years.
“I have fully cooperated with the investigating team and maintain that due legal process must be followed,” Tharoor had said in a statement.
