CJI’S VERDICT ON DELHI’S STATEHOOD & LG, BREAKING NEWS

This is a breaking news. Supreme Court’s verdict on the statehood of Delhi and that of LG’s rights.

The Supreme Court has given its verdict that Delhi cannot be given full statehood and that there is no place for anarchy or absolutism. The CJI said that full statehood is not possible for Delhi. The power & accountability lies with the elected government.

And on the matter of Lieutenant Governor (L-G), the CJI has said that the LG has no independent or executive powers. The LG is bound by the aid & advice of the council of ministers.

Justice Chandrachud has said that the LG cannot stall the government’s decisions.

He further added that LG’s nod id needed only on 3 issues and that the elected government has the will of the people.

Supreme Court Judge Chandrachud said that the LG has 2 options before him- one, the LG can act on the Cabinet’s advice or two, refer to the President.

Aravind Kejriwal has said that this is a big victory for the people of Delhi.
