A boy who had murdered his mother and sister in Noida last December has cleared his CBSE Class X exam from the correction home he is lodged in.
The boy had received a scolding from his mother one evening, as he often did because of his poor academic performance, and late that night attacked her and his sister with a pizza cutter and cricket bat as they slept.
He received 255 marks out of 500, top-scoring in Hindi (72), followed by foundation of IT (56), social science (50), English (44) and Science (33). In the process, he also secured a rewards of Rs 25,000 from the UP government.
The juvenile is among around 50 other inmates lodged in different correction homes who passed their class X and XII examinations in the first or second divisions this year. The department of women and child welfare is giving the cash rewards — Rs 51,000 for those securing first division and Rs 25,000 for the next level.

Aneet Baghel, advocate and member of the Juvenile Justice Board, said two juvenile inmates of the Noida home had appeared in the examination. “The boy accused of killing his mother and sister had got permission to appear in the exam this year. The other 17-year old inmate, who appeared for the Class XII exam, got first division,” he said.
The boy was detained four days after his mother (42) and sister (12) were found murdered at their 4-BHK flat on December 6. He took Rs 1.5 lakh cash from his house, locked the door from outside, took the lift to the basement and managed to get out of his society unnoticed. He took a taxi to New Delhi railway station. Four days later, after he made a call to his father, and police team tracked him down to Varanasi and brought him to Noida.
“He said he was sorry for what had happened. The observation home provided him facilities for studies and also held counselling sessions,” said an official at the correction home. Baghel said there are 140 inmates at the Noida correction home at present. A teacher visits twice a week. “We encourage more inmates to enroll for studies so they are reformed after they are released,” Baghel said.
