After the ‘confessional rape case’ and the ‘nun rape case of Kerala, another Orthodox Church rape case rattles the society.
A native of Alappuzha District, the 30-year-old woman alleged that priest Father Binu George raped her in 2014 after calling her to his office on the pretext of solving a family matter.
The woman, a mother of two children, alleged that she had informed the church authorities about the incident soon.

The church authorities, instead of reporting the matter to the police, tried to cover it up and offered to transfer the priest to another church and promised she would not face any harassment from him in the future.
But the Father Binu continued to remain at the same church for three more years till 2017 and continued to torment her and spread “baseless gossip” against the woman.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that even after he was transferred, Fr Binu continued to harass her, forcing her to approach the police.
Based on her complaint, police have booked Fr Binu for rape.
