FRANCE ARE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS!
THEY HAVE BEATEN CROATIA 4-2 TO CLINCH THE FIFA WORLD CUP 2018
France may not have been a hot favourite to lift the trophy at the beginning of the tournament, but they have beaten all odds to be there. They are the world champions, while Croatia can be proud runners-up. They surprised everyone to be where they are and its an incredible achievement to get there. Here is how the match turned out.
FIRST HALF
France led 2-1 at half-time through a Antoine Griezmann penalty in the 38th minute awarded through a VAR decision which came as a result off a Ivan Perisic handball in the FIFA World Cup 2018 final at the Luzhiniki Stadium in Moscow. The initial goal from France was struck in the 18th minute through a set-piece well-directed by Griezmann from the 30-yard mark which took a deflection of Mario Mandzukic to end in the far corner away from the reach of Danijel Subasic. Croatia, kept the ball better but failed to control the French side on the break. However, Ivan Perisic scored the lone goal for Croatia in the 18th minute through a screamer from the edge of the box which was way out of reach of Hugo Lloris. At the end of half-time Croatia had the superior possession but the scoreline told a different story.
SECOND HALF
In the second half France had a much better pace to their game. Pogba scored in the 59th minute to take France to a 3-1 lead. 6 minutes later,Kylian Mbappe scored in the 65th minute as France increased their (4-1) lead against Croatia. Mbappe thus became only the second teenager to score in the World Cup after Pele. 4 minutes later Mario Mandzukic scored to make it 2-4 for Croatia, but then France had its nose too far ahead as it clinched the trophy.
Congratulations France, You Deserve to be the Champions
