The rules and restrictions may be easing for women in Saudi Arabia but they are still subject to a lot of dos and don’t’s. Women earlier were not even allowed to attend public events in the Kingdom but these things have been relaxed last year under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
However, a woman has faced arrest as she hugged a male singer on stage during his concert. The incident took place at a festival in the city of Taif where singer Majid al-Mohandis was performing. It is not allowed for women of the country to mix along with men who are unrelated to them in public.
This particular woman, identity unknown, went up the stage during the concert and hugged him. The security staff tried to pull her, while she was holding on to Mohandis. A video of this incident has been posted online, which shows her resisting but she did let go and went off the stage. The Irani-born singer later continued to perform. He hasn’t given any comments on this incident. Saudi Arabia’s Ban on Woman Driving Officially Comes to an End.

The woman is in the arrest and will face charges under the law criminalising harassment. “The suspect is held at the Al-Taif Foundation for Women’s Care pending investigation,” the Mecca police official spokesman said to a news agency. A lot of restrictions have been taken off from women in the plan for a “Vision 2030” which aims to increase women participation to boost the economy. Just a few months earlier, women were allowed to attend a concert or a football match for the first time. And about a month ago, women were allowed to drive in the country but also faced protests from certain groups.
