18 killed in a major mishap

A speeding trailer truck rammed into a parked bus in a Pakistani province on Monday, killing 18 people and leaving 30 others injured.

According to police and rescue officials, the 18 people killed in the incident were returning from a wedding when the truck crashed into the bus in the country’s southern Sindh province.

Officials said that the 18 people killed in the incident were all residents of Hyderabad and included women and children who were on their way back from a wedding in Sakrand.

Further, the Edhi ambulance service said that they had shifted 30 people who had suffered injuries in the incident to Hala and Hyderabad civil hospitals.

Adding that six people were critically injured in the incident.

An official of the Edhi Trust was quoted as saying, “The impact was so strong that it killed 15 people on the spot, including five members of the same family. The total casualties are now 18, while 11 have been seriously injured and rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad.”

Further, officials added that it took some time for the rescue teams and police to clear the badly damaged bus and remove the bodies before rushing the injured to hospital.

Local reports also noted that authorities used cranes to lift the wreckage as rescue officials feared more people could be trapped underneath it.

Shah said that an investigation has been launched into the accident.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data shows that since 2011, around 9,000 road accidents have been reported every year in the country.

The official data also showed that the road accidents have killed over 4,500 people on average annually since 2011.

Road accidents are common in Pakistan. Most of them are caused due to reckless driving, bad roads and absence of law personnel to check over-speeding.
