RBI’ new Rs 100 notes : These are the interesting key features

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it is planning to launch new lavender-coloured Rs 100 banknote shortly.

According to reports, the new note will come into circulation by either August or latest by September. According to the RBI, the new Rs 100 notes in the new Mahatma Gandhi Theme-based series will have a motif of ‘Rani Ki Vav’  on the reverse side and will depict the cultural heritage of the country.   

“The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue ? 100 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, bearing the signature of Urjit R. Patel, Governor, Reserve Bank of India. The new denomination has Motif of “RANI KI VAV” on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is Lavender. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse. The dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm × 142 mm,” said the bank in a fresh release. However, it may be noted that the old Rs 100 notes will continue to be legal tender.  

Meanwhile, it has come to light that the new note will not only bear a new colour but will come along with certain salient features for identification and security.

Here are five features about RBI’s new lavender-coloured banknote:  

1) It may be noted that the new noted will have a see-through register with denominational numeral 100 along with latent image with denominational numeral 100. The denominational numeral ??? will be in Devnagari script.  

2) It will have a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the Centre and micro letters ‘RBI’, ‘India’, ‘????’ and ‘100’. It will also come along with a windowed security thread with inscriptions ‘????’ and RBI with colour shift; colour of the thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted.  

3) The notes will bear the Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature with a promise clause and RBI emblem towards the right of the Mahatma Gandhi portrait. It will also have the Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right.  

4) Other than that, the new Rs 100 denomination notes will have Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (100) watermarks, number panel with numerals in ascending font on the top left side and bottom right side.  

5) It should be noted that for the visually-impaired, it will have a raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, raised triangular identification mark with micro-text 100, four angular bleed lines on both the right and left sides.
