With this new feature of Instagram will help you to show who is online

Popular image and video sharing app Instagram in a blog post on Thursday announced the launch of a new feature that would be particularly frustrating for users who like to stay discreet on the platform. In the Instagram Direct section of the app, users will now see a green dot next to profile pictures of their friends indicating that said friend is online.

The green dot indicator is not just limited to Direct, and will also reflect while you are sharing posts via direct message (DM). This is similar to the green dot that is displayed on Messenger, yet another Facebook-owned social media platform.

Apart from a green dot to show when users are online, Instagram will also show recent activity status including timestamps such as ‘Active 25m ago’ and ‘Active yesterday’. Fortunately, Instagram gives users the option to hide the new online status that will available for users on Android and iOS. To do that, go into Settings on the app and turn off the Show Activity Status option.

Instagram is also testing a new feature that will give public account holders more control over followers. The new feature will allow users with an open account to remove followers while maintaining their public account. When a person removes someone from the followers’ list, Instagram won’t send them a notification thereby keeping things discreet and flexible at the same time.

The portal is also considering allowing the blue tick enthusiasts to get their profiles verified. The new ‘request verification’ process comes with an official request form that is accessible within the app for non-verified users. Using the feature, one will be able to provide account information and a copy of their ID to request the verification. It is to be noted that the blue tick is mentioned as reserved for a notable public figure, celebrity, or global brand.
