Novelist Harish Who Made Controversial Remarks About Hindu Woman Going Temple Gets the Support of Kerala Government

Harish, the author of the controversial novel Meesha(which means Moustache) is getting some support from Kerala Government. Minister of Public Works and Registration, G Sudhakaran has asked him not to withdraw his novel, following the protest of some Hindu Organisations. He exhorted the Literature society and the public to respond to the situation in support of the author. The leader of Opposition, Ramesh Chennithala too joined the band of supporters who voiced their solidarity with Harish and said that it is dubious that the Kerala Government has taken no action against the cyber bullies who threatened Harish through Social Media.

The novel is set in a time period about half a century ago and is told through a Dalit perspective. In the novel, it was mentioned that Hindu women going temple, well dressed and neat, is an indirect message to others that she is available for a physical relationship. On the four days(when she is going through her menstrual cycle)she doesn’t make it to the temple, as she cannot engage in a physical relationship and she is indirectly conveying this to the priest. The novelist adds that the priests were ‘experts’ in this matter.

Yuvamorcha had held a March towards Mathrubhumi’s office. The novel appeared in Mathrubhumi’s weekly magazine. It was yesterday that Harish withdrew his novel following the protest from Hindu Organisations. He said he will publish the novel in the form of a book when the Kerala society is ready to take it.
