Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan once dated each other, but their relationship had ended later on a very ugly note. Aishwarya had then called it a nightmare. Also said that she would never work with Salman again. It has been 17 years since then, but Aishwarya has still maintained her word. The two avoid each other even at award shows and parties, leave alone sharing the same screen again.
Back in the days, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were the IT couple of Bollywood. The two had worked in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which established them as one of the top on-screen couples, and their off-screen chemistry was also starting to become the talk of the town. The relationship that began in 1998 saw an ugly end to it in the year 2001.
Aishwarya had accused Salman of physically abusing her and had called off their relationship in 2001. However, it took almost two years for the leading actress to open up about that difficult phase of her life.
In 2003, Aishwarya had issued a two-page long statement clarifying her stance on the break-up. The statement was issued after rumours of Aishwarya and Salman sharing screen space in another Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial spread like wildfire.

In the statement, Aishwarya had said that she stood by Salman “enduring his alcoholism” and “misbehaviour in worst phases”, and that she was at the “receiving end of abuses, infidelity and indignity.” “That is why like any other self-respecting woman, I said enough and ended it almost two years ago,” she had stated.
It was in the same statement that Aishwarya had vowed to never work with Salman again, and had called their relationship a nightmare. She had said, “For the sake of my well-being, my sanity, my dignity and the dignity and self-respect of my family enough! I will not work with Mr. Salman Khan. The Salman chapter was a nightmare in my life and I am thankful to God that it is over.”
