A 39-year-old woman from Osmanabad saved by a security personnel at Mantralaya. The woman had arrived at the Mantralaya on Wednesday morning with a bottle of kerosene to immolate herself. She needed the administration to take action against a local money lender in Osmanabad, police sources said.
According to police, at around 11.30 am, a woman, later identified as Alka Karande, arrived at the Garden Gate of the Mantralaya along with a bottle of kerosene. “Before she could open the bottle and do something, alert policemen and public present at the gate spotted her and asked her what she wants. Karande then discussed her complaint, following which she was taken to Marine Drive Police Station,” said a police officer.

Karande told the police that she had taken a loan from a money lender who was demanding four times the money from her. “She wanted some action to be taken against the lender, but nothing has been done so far. We then arranged food for her and arranged for a meeting with the secretary of the concerned department. The secretary also took cognizance of her complaint. The woman and her family members later left for their hometown,” said the officer.
Police sources claim that Karande had complained at the local administration level in Osmanabad but she ha to come to Mumbai because of inaction.
