Cannot Get Ration Card Benefits, Old Man Attempts Suicide in Taluk Office

An old man from Aluva, Kerala, who cannot get the ration card benefits he deserves attempted suicide in Taluk Office. It was Abdur Rahman who tried to take the extreme step by pouring petrol over his body. The onlookers intervened at the right moment to stop the worst from happening. The incident happened around afternoon 12 on Saturday.

Abdur Rahman said that for 1 year and 3 months he has not been getting the ration benefits he rightly deserves. He cannot even get kerosene. “Why am I living then? You can take any action against me. I have given requests and complaints on many occasions, but there has been no use. Authorities keep informing me that it will take more time”, said a distraught Rahman.

He said he has an old and new ration card. But his name or address is not mentioned in the ration shop. He said after renewing ration card, his name was not added in the ration shop due to the inefficiency of officials. He said he has knocked on all doors and found no other go, which is the reason why he tried to commit suicide.

Although he had applied for card an year back, he didn’t get it as the data was lost in a computer. Later he was given a card but it was A.P.L card. Soon Abdul Rahman and Wife was pushed into a situation where they couldn’t even get the benefits even for medical treatment.
