Temple purifies with ‘Gangajal’ after woman MLA performs puja

A temple in UP was cleaned with ‘Gangajal’ (Ganga water) after a woman lawmaker performed ‘puja’ there.

According to reports, BJP legislator Manisha Anuragi had paid obeisance at the famous ‘Dhumra Rishi Ashram’ temple at Muskara Khurd village in state’s Hamirpur district, a few days back.

Soon after the MLA left the temple, the priests and the seers of the ‘Ashram’ washed the premises with the Ganga water.

Reports said that the local villagers also collected donations and gave it to the temple management so that the idols could be taken for a bath in waters of ‘Sangam’ (the confluence of three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati in Allahabad).

The locals believe that Dhumra Rishi (a Hindu sage) was against the entry of women into his ‘ashram’. “The villagers feared that they would have to face the wrath of the sage if the temple was not cleaned as a woman had entered it,” said Om Prakash Singh, panchayat chief of the village.

Manisha said she had no knowledge about the tradition. The MLA said she had gone to the village to take part in an official function and on getting to know about the temple she paid obeisance there.

“I did not know that entry of woman was banned, otherwise I would not have gone there,” she said.
