Canon has announced the launch of the latest travel compact in its range, the PowerShot SX740 HS, replacing PowerShot SX730 HS that was released last year. Like its predecessor, the SX740 HS comes packing a 40x optic zoom (equivalent to 24-960mm in 35mm terms) and a 20.3MP 1/2.3-type (6.17 x 4.55 mm) back-illuminated CMOS sensor.
The PowerShot SX740 HS spans across a focal range equivalent to 24-960mm in contrast to a traditional 35mm lens together with a variable aperture of f/3.3 to f/6.9. The device boasts of a 20.3MP back-illuminated BSI-CMOS sensor which when powered by the DIGIC 8 image processor can output a frame rate of 10 fps.

The SX740 gains Canon’s latest processor (Digic 8), which brings with it UHD 4K video capture and 7.4 fps burst shooting with continuous AF. The camera also features Wi-Fi with NFC and Bluetooth, with the latter providing the ability to automatically transfer images to both mobile and desktop devices.

The PowerShot SX740 HS will be available in black and silver finishes, and will go on sale next month. Canon UK has priced the camera at £349.99, while a price of $399.99 has been set in the US.
