While Benazir Bhutto might have been Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister, there have been rumors that the nation might soon her first female President.

Now there has been no official announcement, but rumor mills have the name Justice Nasira Iqbal buzzing around.

SO, WHO IS SHE?

Justice Nasira Iqbal

Justice Nasira Iqbal was one of the first five women to be appointed to the Lahore High Court. She served there from 1994 to 2002.

And she also happens to be the daughter-in-law of the famous poet, philosopher and politician, Allama Iqbal. Considered among one of leading literary figures in Urdu and Farsi, Iqbal wrote around 12,000 verses of poetry.

Nasira Iqbal, who was married to late Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, is one of the most prominent women of the country and abroad.

Rumor has it that the 89-year-old may become the South Asian country’s 13th head of the state, replacing Mamnoon Hussain who took the office on Sept 9, 2013.

She also has various honors to her name, like the  Fatima Jinnah Medal for Women’s Rights in 2006, the Woman of the Year Star Award in 2007, and the Wonder Woman Award in 2011.
