Two terrorists were eliminated in an encounter with security forces in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in Watergam area of Sopore, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official said.
He said as the forces were conducting the searches, the militants start firing upon them and the security personnel retaliated.
The search operation is currently underway. Further details are awaited.
This comes after two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Kupwara on Thursday. The exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces took place during a Naka checking.
An INSAS rifle, snatched earlier this week from a policeman in the Kupwara district of north Kashmir, was recovered from the terrorists, police said.

Security forces had established a check-point at Khumriyal in Lolab area, a police spokesman said. The checking was going on when the terrorists fired upon the security personnel who immediately retaliated, he added.
In the brief encounter, two terrorists were killed by the security forces, the spokesman said.
The slain terrorists were identified as Zahoor Ahmad and Bilal Ahmad Shah of Shanmugam village, he added.
“They were affiliated to the proscribed terror outfit HM. Both the terrorists were involved in several attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities in the area,” the spokesman said.
He said besides an AK-47, an INSAS rifle, which was snatched from a policeman in Kandahar area of Kupwara on Tuesday, was recovered from the slain terrorists. No collateral damage occurred during the encounter, the spokesman said, adding police have registered a case and an investigation into the matter had been initiated.
Terrorists also made two unsuccessful bids to attack the Army in Baramulla and Sopian districts, police said. Unidentified terrorists tonight attacked an Army camp in Sopore township of Baramulla district, but there was no damage, a police official said.
He said some terrorists fired a UBGL at Army’s 32 Rashtriya Rifles headquarters at Watergam in Dangiwacha area of Sopore in the north Kashmir district tonight.
The official said the grenade missed the target and exploded in a nearby orchard.
They also fired a few rounds of AK-47 towards the camp, the official said, adding that no loss of life or injury was reported.
