CPI(M), the major party in the ruling Left Front in Kerala is not known for its calmness. Take the example of Kannur, a district in Kerala where CPI(M) had locked horns with almost all other major parties and political murders is a common thing. In many of those cases, CPI(M) finds itself in the wrong end. But yesterday, CPI(M) proved to be a picture of serenity and calmness and almost Gandhian like response to SDPI’s aggression.
It was in Allepey, where CPI(M) was conducting a programme in an auditorium as they watched SDPI coming there and causing unrest. About 10 members of the fundamentalist party rushed to the spot. They installed anti-CPI (M) flexes in front of the auditorium as the left party members watched in silence.
The protestors from SDPI included the father of Muhammad, who is a primary accused in the murder of Abhimanyu. There was a lot of chances for the situation to escalate into a fight, but to CPI(M)s credit, they kept the situation under control by not reacting to it.
However, for those who are familiar with the party’s methods, they would know that this is not how the left party deals with such issues. The incident once again underlines left fronts soft stand towards Islamic fundamentalists.
