How Did Dulquer Salman and Irrfan Khan’s Karwaan Fare at the Box Office?

Dulquer Salman is already an established actor in Mollywood but he has chosen to enter Bollywood in a low-profile film. The hype was missing for the Irrfan Khan starrer and hence it was pretty much on the cards that at maximum the film may touch the 2 crore mark at the box office. With so much of competition around it, Karwaan is finding itself trapped in the middle of four-five other films in the running, something that would make its run in theaters quite challenging. It was expected that the film will not go beyond 2 crore mark on the first day and it barely touched 1.50 crores. This is clearly one of the lowest start that an Irrfan Khan starrer has taken in recent times as leave aside bigger films like Blackmail [2.81 crore] or Hindi Medium [2.81 crore],

How did Dulquer Salman Perform?
He has a subdued and retiring role, one that may not make as much impact on the masses in the face of Irrfan’s flashy, funny road roller of an act. But look closely and you see interesting touches in the young actor’s performance — from the fleeting expressions to the hemmed-in body language and hunched shoulders to that boring shirt-pant attire; Salmaan brings in something simultaneously intelligent and endearing to his “repressed” on-screen avatar.

Karwaan in total is far from perfect. The first half feels insubstantial. Considering that this is a road film, I sorely missed glimpses of the cultures of the places the lead trio pass through. The three characters has performed well, but this could have been a better attempt.
