BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the new Deen Dayal Upadhyaya railway station, which was formerly known as Mughalsarai junction, in the presence of railway minister Piyush Goyal and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Mughalsarai Junction was formally renamed after the RSS ideologue Deen Dayal Uphadyay who was found dead in mysterious circumstances near the station in February 1968.
The proposal to change the name was sent by the Yogi Adityanath’s BJP government and after the Centre’s nod August 4 last year. The Uttar Pradesh government renamed it after a notification on June 5 after a nod from Governor Ram Naik. The leaders also flagged off a passenger as well as goods train from the platform with an all-women crew. They also launched a smart yard project at one of the busiest railway junctions across India, as per officials.Ahead of inauguration, the station was painted saffron and touched up with signboards carrying the new name, as per a report by news agency PTI.
It is worth noticing that the Mughalsarai was also the birthplace of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and other senior BJP leaders were also present at the inauguration. The BJP chief of Uttar Pradesh Mahendra Nath Pandey said on Sunday that the BJP government in states and the Centre have imbibed the philosophy of ‘antyodaya’ by Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
