City Crime Branch sleuths have arrested a hardcore criminal wanted by the police since 2010 in a murder case. After the crime, the accused had on few occasions visited Saudi Arabia to work there.
The arrested person has been identified as Naushad Shoaib Khan, a native of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ashutosh Dumbare, on April 13, 2010, jeweller Bharat Rohanlal Singh was shot dead while he was returning home, after closing his shop at Ghatkopar. A case of murder was registered by Ghatkopar Police in the said case and Khan remained wanted by the police.
“After murdering Bharat Singh, Khan went to Saudi Arabia after obtaining a passport from Lucknow and worked as a driver for six months. Thereafter in 2011, he returned to Ahmedabad and worked as a driver in Nadiad. Again in 2014, he went to Saudi Arabia and returned in 2015 and went to Azamgarh. There he brutally murdered his brother-in-law using a firearm due to a family dispute. A case was registered against Khan at Azamgarh,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detection, Dilip Sawant.
He added, Khan came back to Mumbai in 2017 and in October he assaulted one Mohammad Yusuf Maniyar with a sword. A case was registered against Khan at Ghatkopar Police Station in this regard.
“On receipt of specific information Khan was arrested when he was again trying to flee to Saudi Arabia. He has been handed over to Ghatkopar Police as he is wanted by them,” said DCP Sawant.
