TODAY, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan will be formally announced as the Prime Minister candidate.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Party is meeting in Islamabad on Monday at Imran Khan’s Banigala residence to formally nominate him as the party’s candidate for prime minister.
According to party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry, Khan on Saturday summoned the parliamentary meeting of the party, as the Election Commission of Pakistan is expected to issue an official and ‘verified’ list of winning Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) anytime.
Once the notification is issued, Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (Retd) Nasirul Mulk will send a summary to the President to convene the Assembly’s session.

According to sources, the PTI has also invited those independent MNAs who have already been approached and have announced their support for the part.
MNAs of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and other allied parties from Balochistan and Sindh are also in contact and may be invited to attend the meeting, said the sources.
Regarding the PTI’s choice for the offices of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief ministers, the party spokesman said though the matter is not on the agenda in Monday’s meeting, a final decision in this regard will be taken in a couple of days and Khan would make public the party’s names for the top two slots in these provinces.
