India has plenty to prove in the third test. The experts and former cricketers had not minced words to criticise India’s dismal show in the previous two matches and the onus was on the Indian Batsmen to prove that they are not fair weather great.

India made three changes with Dhawan coming in for Murali Vijay, Rishabh Pant for Dinesh Karthik and Jasprit Bumrah for Kuldeep Yadav. Having lost the toss, India was inserted by England. Indian openers showed great courage and determination in playing out the new ball. Shikhar Dhawan and K L Rahul hung in there for long, but once that partnership was broken, it seemed like it had open the floodgates. Dhawan edged one to slip, Rahul was caught in front and just when it seemed India would go to lunch being the happier side, Pujara hooked one to the hands of a waiting fine leg.
