Ever since the water receded, the political talks have always been about how much each party has contributed to the relief programmes. Central governments 500 Crore and a number of additional offers like food grains, Kerosene etc were well received by the Keralites but it was thought to be too little by some.

To make things worse for BJP, another news came that BJP is going to levy charges for the food grains. But now Central Food minister Ramvilas Pasvan has made it clear that money will not be charged for this. Also, the minister said that 500 Crore Rs is only an interim relief and there will be more to follow in coming days.
Central Finance department said that once the state comes up with a detailed list of the damages, the centre will announce more assistance for the state. Earlier, Chief Minister of Kerala said that as per the primary assessment, the state suffered a loss of 19512 crores.
