Kerala is only beginning to stand on its own feet after the flood wreaked havoc in the south Indian state. As the rescue operations are almost done, political accusations just seemed to have begun. The leader of Opposition, Ramesh Chennithala is the first one to have launched an attack on ruling party and Kerala is eagerly listening to his words.
Ramesh opined that C.M is trying to keep the blame of flood on the shoulders of people, hiding his own mistakes. CM has some responsibility in the flood. It is the duty of the opposition to point out the mistake of Chief Minister.

Ramesh said that when the dams were opened, proper warnings were not given on time. CM tried to made it sound like people hesitated to vacate the area. Nobody should forget that flood is a direct result of the unscientific opening of dams. Except for the locals in Cheruthoni in Idukki district, nobody else in the state came to know about the alert. No warnings ever reached Aluva, Kalady, Perumbavoor, Paravoor, Vaikkom or Chengannur. The vehicle meant to give warnings in Pathanamthitta district itself got caught in the flood.
Ramesh also reminded about the instructions according to the rules of Central Water Commission which are to be followed while giving orange or red alerts. When Orange alert is declared, then itself a detailed plan about vacating people should be made. There should be a proper idea about where floods can occur and the possible water levels. The requirement of medicines in distress relief camps are to be mentioned. Alert is given using a special siren. Only after the completion of these many steps, we get to the red alert. Ramesh added that if CM doesn’t know about these, he should read it and understand for himself.
Ramesh said that there is discontent among Ministers about the same issue. MM Mani and Mathew T Thomas have a difference of opinion about the issue. Except for Cheruthoni, where was it that people were properly reinstated? CM is not able to give a logical answer. Even KSEBs rules were not followed while opening dams.
Ramesh stood Stern on his stand that a judicial inquiry is necessary to investigate the issue. In the hours to come, his words will surely be hotly debated.
