Cop question Rape Victim about her Character leads to killing herself

A 15-year-old gangrape victim hailing from Badayun district of Uttar Pradesh committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling on Wednesday night after police questioned her character.

A resident of Musajhaag area of Badayun, the teenager was abducted by three local youth on Monday. They took her to a secluded primary school and took turns to rape her through the night. The girl managed to escape somehow on Tuesday morning and informed her parents about the incident.

Her parents then took her to the police station to lodge a complaint, where they were kept waiting for four hours. After intervention from Badayun SP Jitendra Srivastava, her report was lodged and the main accused was arrested by the police and the victim was sent for medical examination.

Within hours after lodging the FIR, the brother of the main accused used his political clout to force the victim’s family to withdraw the case with the help of SSP Ashok Kumar.

The SSP called the victim and her family and told them that the medical examination doesn’t confirm gangrape and that they had lodged a false case against the accused.

“In the presence of my daughter, the SSP said that she was having an affair with the main accused and is of a loose character. He said that she had talked to him 122 times in the past few days,” said the victim’s father.

He further claimed that he was threatened by the brother of the main accused, who was forcing them to reach a compromise. “He threatened me with dire consequences if I didn’t compromise,” the father said.

The SSP —Ashok Kumar — who questioned the teenage girl’s character called the victim and her family and told them that the medical examination did not confirm a gang rape and that they had lodged a false case against the accused.
