Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealing him to release a sum of Rs 2,000 crores as interim relief to start the rehabilitation process in the flood-hit areas in the state.
As per the estimates, the losses caused due to floods to infrastructure, crops and public properties are “to the tune of” Rs 3,000 crores, he said.

The chief minister said that the incessant high rain has “wreaked havoc in Kodagu and parts of adjoining Malnad and coastal districts”.
At least 17 people have been reported dead and at least 2,000 houses are damaged due to floods and heavy rains from August 14 to 22, wrote the chief minister. “There has been large scale destruction of public and private properties and infrastructure.
