The Bharatiya Janata Party released its list of candidates for the Lok Sabha Elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will again contest elections from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi Lok Sabha seat whereas BJP president Amit Shah will fight from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar. Shah will replace BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani from the seat. Other prominent names in the lists are Home Minister Rajnath Singh (Lucknow), Nitin Gadkari (Nagpur), Ravi Shankar Prasad (Patna Sahib), Smriti Irani (Amethi), Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Jaipur Rural), Kiren Rijiju (Arunachal West) and General Vijay Kumar Singh (Ghaziabad). Some of the sitting MPs were also denied tickets by the BJP. Shatrughan Sinha (Patna Sahib), Bandaru Dattatreya (Secunderabad) and Bijoya Chakravarty (Gauhati) were some of them.
