As part of the week long ‘Seva Saptah’ to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has donated six months salary to keep 1,100 village markets in the state clean and garbage free.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as part of its countrywide celebration of Seva Saptah (social service week), launched a variety of social service campaigns in Tripura on Saturday.
“I will donate my six months salary to set up eight to ten dustbins or garbage dumping containers in each of the 1,100 village markets in Tripura. It would make these markets and surrounding villages clean and hygienic,” said Deb, who is also the President of the state BJP.
He said: “On the occasion of Modi’s birthday celebration the Seva Saptah will see a cleanliness campaign, voluntary blood donation, plastic free Tripura, supply of pure drinking water and nutrition drive for children and women.”
The Chief Minister wrote social media posts calling for everyone to join the Seva Saptah to carry out the various welfare activities.
He said that India’s first model village was established in Punsari village, 80 km from Gandhinagar in Gujarat during the Chief Ministership of Narendra Modi. “Every village in Tripura would be made like Punsari village,” he claimed and asked all the elected leaders of the three-tier Gram Panchayats to make villages crime free.
