The Pensacola Police Department arrested a man Friday morning on suspicion of exposing himself to and molesting a patient while working as a nurse at Baptist Hospital last March, according to PPD spokesman Mike Wood.
James Ronald Bemis, 71, of Pace, has been charged with sexual assault and indecent exposure, Wood told the News Journal. The victim was an adult male.
Bemis was arrested on a warrant Friday morning at the PPD headquarters, Wood explained. “The incident occurred back in March, but we had to wait for test results taken from the patient’s gown to come back,” Wood said.
Baptist officials were made aware of the accusation in March and immediately conducted a thorough investigation as well as reporting the allegations to law enforcement, said Baptist Health Care spokesperson Kathy Bowers.
Bernis was immediately placed on administrative leave in March and was terminated in April, she said. Baptist continues to cooperate with law enforcement regarding the investigation.
