Defence ministry to set up 7 more quarantine hubs for COVID-19 patients.Officials said defence facilities are also ready in Jodhpur, Jhansi, Deolali, Kolkata, Chennai and Suratgarh for quarantine. Sources say if required military field hospitals can be set up at a short notice.
“There are 265 citizens in two military facilities in Hindon and Manesar. We are expecting more to be brought back to India in the next 2-3 days,” spokesperson Indian Army Col Aman Anand said, giving details of defence establishments being used as quarantine facilities.
The Army is incurring an approximate expenditure of Rs 3.5 lakh per day in running the quarantine facility in Manesar for those being brought back from countries that have been severely hit by Coronavirus, sources said.
With the latest batch of 83 people coming from Italy on March 11, the total number of people who have been quarantined in Manesar reaches 455.
Sources said there was some chaos when the group from Italy reached the facility late evening on Wednesday as some people were not expecting a barrack-like facility where they have to stay together.
“Some of them demanded a private space but that obviously was not possible. It’s an emergency facility,” said a source.
