Pune: A suicide attempt by a Covid patient at Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital(ABMH) kept everyone at spikes-end for hours. The patient who is suspected to have a mental disorder jumped from the hospital window. But he landed unhurt at the parapet of the hospital’s second-floor window.
The hospital administration informed the police about the incident and soon the facility staff of the hospital pulled him back to safety after pacifying him.
The 35-year-old patient was transferred to ABMS for Covid treatment and he took the drastic step within hours of his admission to Covid ward. He was taken to the lavatory for a clean-up and then he pushed the two nurses and ran towards the window. One of the staff nurses who rushed to save him caught hold on his one leg, but he managed to jump – but landed in the parapet just below the window.
The ABMH authorities informed the Wakad police and the family of the patient as he created chaos in the Covid ward after his miraculous escape. The patient is supposed to be suffering from loneliness disorder and is still roaming in the ward unrestrained ‘semi-nude’ as he denies wearing a patient apron provided from the hospital.
