Lucknow: The 14-year-old girl who shot dead her mother and brother has revealed that she drew inspiration from a character in ‘No Longer Human’, a novel by Japanese author writer Dazai, a senior police officer said.The girl, who is said to be suffering from depression, made the confession in the presence of a counsellor Dazai, in his novel ‘No Longer Human’, talks about a troubled man who is incapable of disclosing his true self to the world.
“A character in Dazai’s novel called Oba Yozo tries to adapt, cope and fit in but fails to become a human. The girl identified with that. In her notebook, she has scribbled ‘to fail to be human, to be disqualified as human being’. This is an excerpt from the book,” a report by the media quoted. The counsellor also stated that the girl used to identify with the characters in the Japanese author’s novel and reacted similarly.
During the probe, the juvenile said that her mother and brother went to sleep after having lunch on Saturday. She took a bath and then wrote ‘I am a disqualified human’ with tomato sauce on the bathroom mirror. Later, she loaded five bullets in a pistol and fired three rounds.A police officer said that of the three bullets, one was shot at a mirror, on which she had scribbled ‘disqualified human’ for herself and the other two were shot at the mother-son duo.
Besides the weapon used in the crime, a toy ‘skull’ and some grotesque pictures have been also recovered from her room. The teenager also inflicted wounds on herself using a razor, which too has been recovered.The officer also mentioned that the girl is a bright student and a national-level shooter.
