Former Indian cricketer appointed as the head of BCCI women’s selection panel.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the appointment of former India Women’s cricketer Neetu David as the head of the new All-India Women’s Selection Committee. The women’s selection committee will comprise of 5 members, all of whose appointments were announced on September 26. The BCCI had made a press release in January for invitations of applications for the Senior Women national selectors, with two openings, along with applications for the Senior Men and Junior Men category with 2 positions open for each.

On account of seniority, Neetu David, the former left-arm spinner, will head the five-member committee.

Neetu David, the former left-arm spinner, will head the five-member committee. She holds the world record for best bowling figures in an innings in a Test for her 8/53 against England Women in the Jamshedpur Test held in 1995. She is also the second-highest wicket-taker for India in WODIs with 141 scalps and was also the first from India to take 100 WODI wickets,” as mentioned by the BCCI on their website. The prerequisites for the Women’s selection committee, as mentioned by the BCCI, were that the applicant ‘should have represented the Indian Women’s Cricket Team’ and ‘should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago’. The Selection Committee includes;-

1) Neetu David (10 Tests and 97 WODIs)
2) Arati Vaidya (3 Tests and 6 WODIs)
3) Renu Margrate (5 Tests and 23 WODIs)
4) Venkatacher Kalpana (3 Tests and 8 WODIs)
5) Mithu Mukherjee (4 Tests)
