Chennai: A low-intensity earthquake of 3.5 magnitude on the Richter Scale struck Vellore district in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake was reported at 3:14 pm at a depth of 10 km.

On December 22, a similar earthquake of magnitude 3 had hit Chikkaballapura district, around 61 km away from Bengaluru in Karnataka. The first earthquake had a magnitude of 3.1 and occurred at 7.09 AM on Wednesday morning. The second earthquake occurred five minutes later, at 7.14 am.
