In response to a spike in coronavirus cases and the highly transmissible Omicron form, the Tamil Nadu government imposed a Sunday lockdown, limiting all activities, save critical services. As part of the night curfew, the lockdown began at 10 p.m. on Saturday and will be over by 5 am on Monday.
