Amid ongoing protests against the questioning of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), an FIR has been filed against party leader Sheikh Hussain, for making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wishing him ‘a dog’s death’.
At a public event, the Maharashtra Congress member can be heard lauding the works of Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, stating that the ‘country would burn’ if even the slightest harm came to the Congress leaders. PM Modi, he alleged, had not done anything for the nation. The remarks have since sparked a furore in the BJP camp with party leaders in Nagpur registering a police complaint. An FIR was registered last night under sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the penal code.
Hundreds of Congress workers continued to stage protests at different locations in the national capital and beyond over their leader Rahul Gandhi being summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for the third consecutive day on Wednesday. Top party leaders including Chief Minister and MPs have been repeatedly detained by the police over the past three days.
The police personnel in heavy numbers, along with paramilitary force and rapid action force teams were deployed at several points to avoid any incident in the national capital. Agitated party workers also burnt two tires outside the ED office to register the protest against the police action to stifle their voice. The party leaders alleged that the police are not allowing them to even protest against the government and are continuously harassing them.
