After nine members of a family were found dead in Maharashtra’s Sangli district on Monday, the Sangli police arrested 13 persons. Initially, 25 persons were arrested on charges of harassing the deceased and suicide abetment. Thirteen of them, including the moneylenders, were arrested.
The incident occurred in two of the brothers’ homes in Mhaisal village. The moneylenders’ names were revealed in suicide notes found in the home by the police. ‘In the suicide notes, it was mentioned that they (the brothers) wanted the money for some business. This will be investigated later,’ Sangli Superintendent of Police Dikshit Gedam said.
According to PTI, Gedam added, ‘Based on the names mentioned in the notes found at the spots, we have registered a case of abetment to suicide against 25 people.’ They may have also taken a poisonous substance, the official also said.
