Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde issued a cryptic post on Twitter hours after going incommunicado with 26 MLAs following the Maharashtra MLC poll results, saying he will not cheat on Balasaheb’s teachings for power. Shinde further claimed that they were staunch Shiv Sainiks who were taught Hindutva by Balasaheb, the Shiv Sena’s founder.
‘We are Balasaheb’s staunch Shiv Sainiks. Balasaheb taught us Hindutva. We have never and will never cheat for power on Balasaheb’s thoughts and Anand Dighe Saheb’s teachings,’ Shinde, who was removed as the party’s legislative group leader in the Maharashtra assembly, wrote.
Shinde is allegedly camping at a resort in Surat, Gujarat, a BJP-ruled state, with 26 Maharashtra MLAs. This action has fuelled speculation of a mutiny inside Maharashtra’s ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government. In the MLC election results, the opposition BJP came out on top, a fact that is thought to be the result of cross-voting by several ruling government MLAs.
