Petrol and diesel prices increased in Punjab by 92 paise and 88 paise per litre

Following the state government’s upward revision of value-added tax (VAT) on gasoline, petrol and diesel prices in Punjab jumped by 92 paise and 88 paise per litre, respectively, prompting a harsh reaction from opposition parties. The opposition parties called the AAP government’s move to raise fuel prices “anti-people,” saying it will place an additional hardship on the common man and farmers.

Following the hike in VAT, retail prices of petrol (in Mohali) climbed to Rs 98.95 per litre and diesel to Rs 89.25 per litre on Sunday, according to fuel pump owners. Following the state government’s modification of the value-added tax (VAT) on petrol, petrol and diesel prices in Punjab increased by 92 paise and 88 paise per litre, sparking a furious reaction from opposition parties.

The opposition parties have labelled the AAP government’s decision to raise petrol prices as “anti-people,” claiming that it will put further strain on the common man and farmers.  According to fuel station operators, retail rates of petrol (in Mohali) rose to Rs 98.95 per litre and diesel to Rs 89.25 per litre on Sunday as a result of the VAT increase.
