Sale of Karnataka’s Nandini milk in Kerala to be opposed by Kerala Milk Federation

The Karnataka Milk Federation’s Nandini dairy products would not be sold in Kerala, according to the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, or Milma.

The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India’s board of directors will discuss the matter at their upcoming meeting, according to KS Mani, head of the Milma Malabar Region Cooperative Milk Producers Union.

Today, KS Mani stated in India that it was unethical for the nation’s milk federations to depart from the customs and procedures they had been upholding for so long. He claimed that after sending a letter objecting to Karnataka Corporate Milk manufacturers’ decision to open stores in Kerala, it was disregarded.

‘Karnataka Corporate Milk producers had decided to do business in Kerala even before the Amul-Nandini issue, which was much discussed in the Karnataka Assembly elections. Amul’s decision to start a business in Karnataka was wrong, but Nandini has no moral right to oppose it,’ said Milma Malabar Region Union chairman.

‘Milk federations should work not just for commercial interests but for the welfare of dairy farmers in their state,’ KS Mani added.

Additionally, he emphasised that it was against the fundamental principles and values of cooperation for a cooperative institution from one state to directly interfere in the market of a cooperative organisation from another.

During the holiday seasons and when Kerala’s milk production is poor, milk is mostly dependent on Nandini of Karnataka and Aavin of Tamil Nadu. Therefore, it is improper to trouble Milma, a loyal customer of Nandini, over the sale of a few litres of milk, according to Milma’s chairman.

He claimed that Milma was unaffected by the introduction of Nandini’s products in Kerala.

According to the figures from the previous six months, there has been a considerable increase in our product sales, according to KS Mani, who said that Nandini’s entry may have an impact on other market players in Kerala.

‘It is not right for Amul, the parent of milk federations in the country, to do business in such a way that affects the federations and dairy farmers of other states. Milma is trying to solve the problems through discussion and not planning for any legal procedure,’ KS Mani added.
