Following an operation at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan, at least 18 patients allegedly lost their vision. They had cataract surgery before the claimed loss of vision occurred. The Chiranjeevi health programme of the Rajasthani government was used to operate the majority of them.
These patients’ allegedly premature hospital discharge raises more questions. The procedures, which involved 74 patients in all, have drawn criticism after several days of postoperative problems caused at least 18 patients to experience hazy vision and eventually lose their sight.
The impacted patients, who had hoped to recover their vision through the operations, now had to deal with worsening health issues.
Patients who were taken to SMS Hospital’s Charak Building’s eye ward revealed that they had eye procedures on 22 and 23, following which their eyes began to get red. The scratching grew worse over time, and soon their vision vanished altogether. The doctors told them to wait patiently for their vision to return when they complained about the post-surgery difficulties.
The information that is currently available indicates that 74 people had eye procedures from June 26 to June 28. 18 patients complained of vision problems a few days following the procedure, and it was later discovered that the spread of an infection was the cause of their visual loss. To date, nobody has admitted guilt for this occurrence, though.
