The United States Congress has approved GE Aerospace’s agreement with state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to develop fighter aircraft engines for the Indian Air Force, marking a significant step forward in India and US defence collaboration.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the US in June, a deal was reached between India and the US.
Now that the US Congress has approved the Biden administration’s plans to pursue the GE jet engine deal with India, the agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) can be put into effect. This agreement includes unprecedented technology transfer, the production of jet engines in India, and licencing agreements.
