On Sunday, October 22, a police officer in Coimbatore was detained for sexually assaulting two sisters who were 17 and 19.
The mother of the girls, who was employed as a housemaid, and the accused, Durairaj, 55, had an extra marital affair. In the last three years, Durairaj is accused of repeatedly going to the woman’s home and raping the daughters.
When the girls left their house to escape the sexual abuse, the incident came to light. On October 20, their mother filed a missing persons report, which sparked a police inquiry. On Sunday, the girls were found and taken to a women’s police station, where they described their ordeal.
The victims claim that Durairaj had repeatedly gone to the girls’ home during the previous few years, taking advantage of their mother’s absence to sexually assault the girls. The daughters were forced to leave their home due to the ongoing abuse.
Following the girls’ statements, Durairaj was arrested for violating the Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) Section 376(3), which forbids repeatedly raping the same woman, as well as various other POCSO Act provisions.
