The latest incident in a string of heart attack deaths that have occurred during the Garba dance in recent days occurred on Monday when a 26-year-old man died in Surat, Gujarat, while taking part in the dance.
On Sunday night in the city, Rohit Rathod, the victim, fell down while doing the Garba dance at a pandal. He was taken to the hospital by his family members, where the medical staff pronounced him dead.
Praveen Rathod, Rohit’s brother, claimed that the young farmer had no medical history.
The death of Rohit was not an unusual occurrence. Concerns have been raised recently in Gujarat after numerous people died while taking part in Garba as part of the Navratri celebrations. The youngest victim was a 13-year-old boy, while the victims ranged in age from teenagers to middle-aged persons.
The state administration has instructed all government hospitals close to Garba venues to be on high alert after noticing the rise in deaths. Garba organisers were given instructions to set up passageways so that ambulances could enter the gatherings quickly in the event of an emergency.
The Garba organisers have also made measures to guarantee the security of attendees by stationing medical personnel and ambulances at the events. Additionally, they have been encouraged to train their personnel in CPR and make sure that there is plenty of water available for participants.
Experts claim that the strenuous dancing included in Garba dance techniques puts a great deal of strain on the heart and may even cause cardiac arrests.
