Enforcement agents have recovered 244 crore in cash over the past 15 days in Rajasthan ahead of the Assembly polls, officials said on Tuesday.
The police, excise, income tax, and other enforcement agencies are keeping a close eye, and a ‘new record’ has been set in the amount of illegal currency, alcohol, narcotics, gold, and silver that has been seized. According to officials, the total amount of seizures has surpassed 1,000 crore in 2023.
Officials claim that this year’s total seizure, which was 322 crore in 2021, 347 crore in 2022, and 1,021 crore so far in 2023, has increased by a factor of three.
According to Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta, the election commission has been cooperating closely with all law enforcement authorities since June, and since that time, 648 crore rupees worth of cash and other items have been recovered. According to police, cash and other items worth 244 crore have been seized over the course of the last 15 days (from October 9).
Gupta claimed that the police, the income tax department, and other authorities confiscated Rs 39.30 crore in cash during this time. Similarly, the Excise Department, police, and other authorities recovered about Rs 10.60 lakh litres of illicit alcohol valued at Rs 20.12 crore. He said that the Narcotics Control Bureau, police, and other agencies had confiscated drugs and psychotropic substances worth Rs 46.76 crore. Gold, silver, and other precious metals worth Rs 30.40 crore have been seized by the police, the income tax department, and the customs department.
He claimed that various authorities had also seized freebies and other things worth Rs 84.22 crore.
