In a tragic incident during a procession for the immersion of the goddess Durga’s idol in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, two individuals lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries. The unfortunate accident occurred at Bodhanwala Ghat within the Bistupur police station area on Tuesday evening. According to officials, the mishap transpired as a truck was negotiating a slope.
Two of the injured individuals succumbed to their injuries at the Tata Main Hospital, where the remaining four are currently receiving medical treatment, as mentioned by Health Minister Banna Gupta in a statement following his visit to the healthcare facility. Police reports suggest that the conditions of two of the injured are serious, and the victims were associated with the Kitadih Puja Committee in Bagbera.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his condolences for the two deceased individuals and wished for peace for their departed souls while extending his support to the grieving families. The district administration also appealed to devotees to prioritize their safety during the immersion process. In a gesture of support, Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 each to the families of the two deceased persons from his personal funds.
